Health Science is from the health science cluster and is a two-year program. This course is open only to Juniors and Seniors. It is designed for students who wish to explore the large variety of careers in the healthcare field. Students gain academic and technical skills necessary for the transition from the classroom to work-based healthcare learning experiences. Studies include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, healthcare delivery systems, teamwork, legal and ethical practices, safety, health and wellness, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid and effective communication. The goal of this program is to provide the skills common to a wide variety of healthcare professions by exploring a large number of healthcare career paths. Students receive safety training before participating in hands-on projects. Several examples of the wages paid in careers this program can lead to include registered nurses earning an average of $32.08 per hour and radiology technicians averaging $26.11 an hour.

Salary information was obtained from the current edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Department of Labor (www.bls.gov/oco). Potential earnings are based on national salaries for an average work week.  Local earnings will vary and depend upon business conditions and a worker's level of education, motivation and experience.
