Culinary Arts is from the hospitality and tourism cluster and is a two-year program. Students are introduced to the fast-paced world of food service - one of the fastest growing career fields in the world. Concepts of food preparation, nutrition and serving are learned in a commercial kitchen. Students develop management skills as they prepare and serve at luncheons and meetings in the adjacent conference center. This course can lead to advanced study in culinary arts and hospitality with exciting careers at resorts, on cruise ships or in your own business. Students receive safety training before participating in hands-on projects and are given the nationally recognized ServSafe examination. The average salary for a chef is $19.39 an hour with many earning about $33.34 an hour.

Salary information was obtained from the current edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Department of Labor (www.bls.gov/oco). Potential earnings are based on national salaries for an average work week.  Local earnings will vary and depend upon business conditions and a worker's level of education, motivation and experience.
