Automotive Technology is from the transportation cluster and is a two-year program. Today's modern vehicle is a technologically advanced machine. Computers, electronics, fuel injection, hybrid engines and anti-lock braking are the world of the auto technician. Students receive the technical education increasingly in demand by automotive dealerships, independent garages and equipment manufacturers through in-depth theory and extensive hands-on training in the automotive lab. Students receive safety training before participating in hands-on projects. The average salary for an automotive technician is $16.88 per hour with many master technicians earning about $28.71 an hour.

Salary information was obtained from the current edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Department of Labor (www.bls.gov/oco). Potential earnings are based on national salaries for an average work week.  Local earnings will vary and depend upon business conditions and a worker's level of education, motivation and experience.
